Torrens Transit recognised for commitment to accessibility and inclusion

Torrens Transit has received the 2026 Access Advocate Commendation. The Guide Dogs SA/NT Access Advocate Commendation acknowledges Torrens Transit’s long-standing commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and practical support for people who are blind or have low vision. The commendation forms part of the annual Guide Dogs SA/NT Access Advocate Awards, which celebrate organisations that embed accessibility and inclusion practices within their operations and workplaces.

The commendation was presented during a special awards ceremony held on the lawns of Government House Adelaide, bringing together community, business and accessibility advocates to celebrate organisations making a meaningful difference. Torrens Transit Managing Director Vince Dalzell accepted the award on behalf of the business from Guide Dogs SA/NT Chief Executive Officer Dan Cox, recognising the collective efforts of Torrens Transit employees in advancing accessibility and inclusion across Adelaide's public transport network.

The recognition reflects Torrens Transit’s enduring partnership with Guide Dogs SA/NT, including regular bus familiarisation days and training initiatives that help people with low vision build confidence when travelling independently on public transport.

Beyond its direct support of Guide Dogs SA/NT, Torrens Transit continues to champion accessible public transport through a range of initiatives that support the broader community. This includes maintaining and supporting the popular Sensory Bus, South Australia’s first purpose-built, mobile sensory-friendly space at community events for people with sensory sensitivities. Torrens Transit has a commitment to ensuring every team member completes Hidden Disabilities Training to better support customers with both visible and non-visible disabilities.

Torrens Transit Managing Director Vince Dalzell said the commendation reflected the team's ongoing commitment to creating a more inclusive public transport network for all South Australians.

"We are incredibly proud to receive this commendation from Guide Dogs SA/NT. Accessibility and inclusion are fundamental to how we operate, and this recognition reflects the genuine commitment of our people to ensuring every customer feels welcome, supported and confident when travelling with us,” Mr Dalzell said.

For 26 years, Torrens Transit has been connecting South Australians with the places, people and opportunities that matter most. Throughout that time, the business has remained a steadfast supporter of the communities it serves, recognising that accessible and inclusive transport is essential to helping people participate fully in everyday life.

"As a business that has been serving Adelaide for more than 26 years, we see supporting our community as a core responsibility. We remain committed to creating a public transport network that is accessible, inclusive and welcoming for everyone," Mr Dalzell said.
